What happens if you don't have
all the finances for a DTS?

Allow God to surprise you in His provision for your school fees and personal expenses.

Can't imagine how? Then read here about how God amazed one of our students Sally McLean in her difficult circumstances.

Reef to Outback is a non - profit incorporated association, and as an interdenominational organisation has no regular funding from any particular denomination. Nobody in Youth With A Mission receives a salary, so each person, from the newest volunteer to the International President, is responsible for his or her own needs. Some staff receive regular support from a home church, friends or family, while others rely on provision from different sources. All students who participate in the training programs are required to meet their own expenses.

What happens if I don't have all the finances for a DTS?

As you look into attending a Reef to Outback DTS, there's a few things to consider. I'll list some points that may help:

Firstly, however you may hear God or process your decision making, have a conviction that this school is for you.

Involve your local pastor and friends with your decision making and ask them if they can help to pray and give financially.

Talk it over with some friends who have done a DTS and see what they think of you going.

Understand whether it's the right timing for you. Note some people put off doing a DTS because of a pay rise, a job promotion or another great opportunity. Make sure you don't settle for second best.

Get some friends together and see about doing some fundraising, selling chocolates, washing cars, a garage sale, the skys the limit. By the way doing these sorts of activities will do much more than raising finances for your DTS. Awareness, friendship and prayer support are the other crucial things that will happen if you are wise in how you go about it.

Be prepared to work extra jobs with a focus to raise money, sell some items, maybe your car, etc.

Contact the DTS Director.

DTS's are a great investment into your future!!

God did the impossible!! - Sally McLean DTS student

At the beginning of this year I had decided to go on a DTS as I wanted to be challenged in my faith, taste the mission field and have a long awaited break from study! Yet at this stage I had no money and no job to assist me to go.

Sally.jpg - 5598 BytesMeanwhile I was searching for information on DTS's and when I received material on Reef to Outback, it immediately appealed to me. I couldn't stop thinking about it, and my heart became more and more set on it.

One night I came home to some news about costs. The course itself would cost $4,800 and I would also need money for airfares to get to Townsville and for the outreach. This sounded to much for me, and to top it off the course was starting relatively soon, in June. My thoughts were - IMPOSSIBLE! But the following morning my family and I figured that well, why not! God could do it if He wanted to. So I decided to aim for Reef to Outback and allow God to provide if it was His will.

Seemingly placed in my lap came a job working many hours a week with a young woman who has severe disabilities. However after a number of weeks I learned that this work was too tough on me physically and I knew it was wise to resign. This job had been a help financially but I felt like I was back to square one in terms of getting to Reef to Outback. At this time I was handed a note from a friend that read, "Sally, through all these trials God really wants you to know that it's by Him that you will be sent".

To my amazement, money began to trickle in from all directions. Numerous opportunities came up for me to earn money in small ways. People started giving me gifts of money, even some who knew me very little. A friend in my church willingly organized a fund-raiser for me, selling Australian-made woolen sock - 300 pairs sold. People in my youth group worked on another fund-raiser and even an employer of mine organized and held her own garage sale for me!

Right up until the beginning of DTS it was like a roller coaster ride. Many times I would become discouraged, and God would again give me encouragement enough to go on with . During June, it became clear that God was sending me to Reef to Outback and He was providing all I needed. It was worth it! God's character had been just as evident during the school and I am so glad to be here!
