God did the impossible!! - Sally McLean DTS student
At the beginning of this year I had decided to go on a DTS as I wanted to be challenged in my faith, taste the mission field and have a long awaited break from study! Yet at this stage I had no money and no job to assist me to go.
Meanwhile I was searching for information on DTS's and when I received material on Reef to Outback, it immediately appealed to me. I couldn't stop thinking about it, and my heart became more and more set on it.
One night I came home to some news about costs. The course itself would cost $4,800 and I would also need money for airfares to get to Townsville and for the outreach. This sounded to much for me, and to top it off the course was starting relatively soon, in June. My thoughts were - IMPOSSIBLE! But the following morning my family and I figured that well, why not! God could do it if He wanted to. So I decided to aim for Reef to Outback and allow God to provide if it was His will.
Seemingly placed in my lap came a job working many hours a week with a young woman who has severe disabilities. However after a number of weeks I learned that this work was too tough on me physically and I knew it was wise to resign. This job had been a help financially but I felt like I was back to square one in terms of getting to Reef to Outback. At this time I was handed a note from a friend that read, "Sally, through all these trials God really wants you to know that it's by Him that you will be sent".
To my amazement, money began to trickle in from all directions. Numerous opportunities came up for me to earn money in small ways. People started giving me gifts of money, even some who knew me very little. A friend in my church willingly organized a fund-raiser for me, selling Australian-made woolen sock - 300 pairs sold. People in my youth group worked on another fund-raiser and even an employer of mine organized and held her own garage sale for me!
Right up until the beginning of DTS it was like a roller coaster ride. Many times I would become discouraged, and God would again give me encouragement enough to go on with . During June, it became clear that God was sending me to Reef to Outback and He was providing all I needed. It was worth it! God's character had been just as evident during the school and I am so glad to be here!
