Reef to Outback Basic Leadership School (BLS)The next BLS starts on the 10th January 2000.
Following is a brief outline of our school ...
The purpose of the BLS is to help, train and release young people into leadership responsibilities. To give young people a basic understanding and practice of biblical leadership. To allow the student to grow and develop in their own giftings and to provide hands on experience in ministry whilst being mentored and coached in a supportive Christian environment.
The course is designed to compliment the purpose of YWAM - Reef to Outback "To mobilise young people to mission and help people in need".
The BLS will provide the student with a broad based biblical foundation in leadership principles which can be translated into a YWAM, local church or cross-cultural context.
D. Values
The BLS objectives embrace YWAM's principles and values and maintain those of equipping men and women spiritually, culturally, intellectually, and professionally. To inspire the students to use their God-given talents to communicate and demonstrate the good news to all nations. Additionally they uphold our dependence on God, character development, servant leadership and hands on involvement in missions.
The BLS is an apprenticeship style training program which coincides with the running of the DTS program. BLS students staff 2 DTS programs. During the first DTS the BLS students are introduced to the basic principles of biblical based leading and are given opportunity to put their new found knowledge into practice by assisting in the leading of short term outreaches, leading small groups and general input into the DTS program.
|

Week 1 The initial week is a preparation time for the BLS students to gain an understanding of their role in the overall ministry of YWAM Townsville - Reef to Outback, and for laying foundations which will apply for the remainder of the school. |
Weeks 2 - 7 The instruction during these weeks is on specific leadership and relational principles which apply to the needs of the BLS students as they disciple their small group of DTS students both in the group and in one to one contexts. |
Weeks 8 - 11 During these weeks the DTS is usually mobile so in addition to the normal responsibilities as outlined above - the BLS students are also in charge of overseeing a small outreach team. This phase also provides the students with both formal and informal input on the practical outworking of leading an outreach team. |
Weeks 12 - 20 The next phase of the program adds the responsibility of preparing a small group of DTS students for a cross cultural experience and then leading the team during the outreach. |
Weeks 21 - 24 Again the students are involved in leading a small team, however, they are also exposed to more teaching and evaluation during this phase. |
Week 25 The final week in a report back and Re-Entry week for both the DTS and BLS students. The objective of this final week is to allow students to process the information and experience of the school and prepare for returning home or continuing in ministry. |
