Reef to Outback Leadership Team
Ken and Robyn Mulligan - DirectorsOur leadership responsibilities include plenty, from pioneering and establishing the direction of the ministry to staff training, fundraising, administration, outreaches, relief and development, training schools, etc. We are both very encouraged with the growth of the ministry and the blessing it is to work with so many wonderful people. We moved to Brisbane in 1987 then onto Townsville in September 1992 to be the Directors of the YWAM - Reef to Outback. We were appointed the National Coordinators of Mercy Ships - Australia but have stepped out of that position as of January 1996. We have been in YWAM for over 12 yrs now. Robyn is primarily involved on a managerial and decision making level and in the direction and vision of the ministry. She also steps in to help where needed, and overseas the hospitality ministry from our centre. We have two great children that keep us very busy as well.
Andrew and Faith DuttonOur desire is to help young people reach their full potential and to see them motivated and mobilised into being a part of the Great Commission. Faith has been involved with YWAM since 1998 and Andrew was part of the first DTS here in 1996. He joined staff later, and we were married in 1998 and are currently the Training and Worship Co-ordinators. Our other responsibilities include the base leadership team which is responsible for the oversight of Reef to Outback and DTS's. We both love music and want to serve God through it. We are in the process of seeing a band established to go from the centre into schools, churches, onto the streets etc both nationally and internationally, seeing God glorified through the median of music. Julie LitzowMy heart is to see young people become involved in reaching the unreached people of this world - particularly in Australia and South East Asia. My main ministry in working with Reef to Outback will be as a leader on the Discipleship Training School. It is a course designed to train and equip young people to develop their personal relationship with Jesus, to share their faith and to be involved in practical ways of expressing God`s love to the needy and lost. I am also part of a staff team who present and promote missions in churches through multi- media presentations involving drama, videos, testimonies and song.
Discipleship Training School Leaders
Dave GiltinanI joined Reef to Outback in 1997 two weeks after becoming a Christian. Through being involved in a DTS God proved His existence to me and radically changed my life. As a result I joined staff after completing my DTS, wanting to know God better and make a difference in this world. My heart is to help, in particular, young Australian youth mixed up in drugs, alcohol and suicidal tendencies. I love being involved in outreaches to different destinations across Australia as well as overseas, sharing God's love with the people we meet. I am involved in the band which, having just formed, will soon be travelling throughout Australia performing in high schools, parks, malls, and wherever God leads. This is something I'm stoked about. Music is an awesome medium that can be used to demonstrate God's creativity, love and amazing nature. My roles include the pastoral care of DTS students, involvement in leadership training, leading small groups and outreach teams, and involvement in worship, music and intercession. I hope one day to live amongst a people group with little or no Christian influence, as a full time missionary.
Chris BoumaHaving completed my DTS here in June 1998, I was really challenged in not settling for second best in what I want to do in Gods kingdom work. My heart is for young people -to see them challenged and grow in a deeper understanding of what God has done for them, to be healed and to seek and find God's purpose for them in their lives. My role at DTS Leader is to lead small groups and walk with students through their DTS and pray for them. I'm also involved with the property maintenance - repairing and building. It is great to use my 12-13 years experience in carpentry. I also have a strong desire to help in practical projects to meet the need of poorer people (eg the research and control of communicable diseases and the coconut press micro economic project). I have no better place to fulfill all that God has for me than RTO, with all the challenges that lay ahead, there is never a dull moment.
Sally McLeanA short time after returning home to Adelaide, South Australia, as a DTS graduate of in 1998, I came back to Townsville to participate in the Leadership Training program. As a trainee, I am excited about and being challenged in my new involvement as a DTS leader. My heart is for young people to really grow in their depth of knowing God and to be encourages and helped at different points of need. On the music side of things (singing and keyboard playing), I will have opportunities to develop in the area of leading worship. I have joined others in a desire to see a band up and running that is effective in outreach, being both God-centred and good quality.
Melissa RutherfordI completed my DTS here at Reef to Outback in 1998. It was a time where I discovered how real God's love for me was and how much he is interested in me and also that he has awesome plans for me. I feel that God has called me back to Reef to Outback on DTS staff to help students find out how real God and his love for us really is. I see my role as someone to listen and to encourage and direct people to seek after God and his will for our lives. For me being on staff includes doing Leadership Training. I feel that in joining staff God is going to teach me a whole lot more about who he is and who I am in him. I am looking forward with anticipation to see how God will use me and the students as we step out for him.
Bill HutchisonI completed my DTS in Dec. 98 after coming over to Australia from Canada in June. My intent in coming over was to develop a closer relationship with God, but in doing that I found that God had plans for me to stay in Australia for an extended period of time. The DTS was a turning point in my life that has now given me direction, and has also led me to further training and ministry within Reef to Outback, and Youth With A Mission. My desire here at Reef to Outback is to see young people grow in their relationship with God, and to see them find their own purpose and vision in His Kingdom. During my time here at Reef to Outback I will be participating as a staff member on the Discipleship Training School (DTS), as well as completing the RTO Leadership Training School. Being a staff member on the DTS incures a pastoral role with the students and responsibilities in the running of outreach's both within Australia and overseas. Some of my additional resposibilities here ay Reef to Outback is the maintanace of the computer systems, communications, and the growing multimedia department.
Logistics Staff
David Watterson (Watto) - Transport and Maintenance Co-ordinatorMy purpose in the Reef to Outback technical knowledge to the team of people looking after the vehicles and trailers. I'm very excited about the number of Australians doing this school and the potential impact it will have in Aboriginal communities. Although I don't feel called to Aboriginal work I want to be part of Gods purposes in reaching them. What I have seen so far in Reef to Outback is that God is bringing together a team of many people, all with different passions and gifting but combined to see Gods kingdom expanded. My dream is to see Reef to Outback become a major tool for God to bring hope and reconciliation between whites and Aborigines as well as motivating many other people into missions.
Barry & Seanna Ryan - Food Co-ordinatorsAs a family we look on the greater heights in Christ, knowing we serve with a purpose to see people come to know this saving power, and those who know our Lord to be encourages in his Promise. To take the word of God to as many thirsty hearts as possible, in various and artistic ways. My wife and I finished our DTS some years ago and in December 1998 our family of four children joined the Reef to Outback team. We are currently serving as food co-ordinators for the base.
Carol Payne - AdministratorAfter doing my DTS here in 1997, I have returned to Reef to Outback to work in the base office in administration. My administrative work in assisting the director and DTS staff covers a broad range of jobs in the office. Office procedures and standards are high on the priority list as our ministry grows and efficient lines of communication prove to be vital. My job - to keep the cogs well oiled. A particular interest for me here at Reef to Outback is in some of the Relief and Development work that is done - the opportunities to aid community development are quite exciting. While not yet "out there", it is great to be part of what is happening. Recently I undertook training to teach english to speakers of other languages (TESOL) and hope to use that both here in Townsville and other nations.
Jo Blaik - Training AdvisorMy real passion is to see people released into the excellence of God. Having worked as a high school teacher it was easy to see how an education system could really fail students who didn't fit the system. Being involved in Youth With a Mission has enabled me to see God's redemptive plan for people's lives and to see them grow in an understanding of their individual uniqueness and potential in God. Youth With a Missions training programs allow people from any background to be a part, as God calls them, of the Great Commission. My challenge as Training Advisor with Reef to Outback is to assist our students reach their full potential in the training programs they are involved in and be released into the excellence of God in their lives. Having spent time in India and Nepal on my own DTS outreach in 1995 I had an opportunity to see first hand not only the need for workers to the unreached nations of the world but also the potential of programs that would build communities - ie education, health care, farming practices etc. Since 1995 I have worked on staff with YWAM Brisbane working in administration and training particularly in training TESOL teachers (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). I moved to Townsville in 1997 and joined Reef to Outback in 1998 to work as Training Advisor. Having a good grounding in education for me is only the beginning. I believe the real challenge is seeing Christians not only from western countries rise up to find their place in the kingdom of God but to see people from every tribe and tongue and nation come to know Christ and take their place in God's kingdom. |
